Threat and Risk Assessment - Bodyguards in Thailand

Threat and risk assessment is the most important and sensitive part of a Close Protection Operation. As its process is also confidential, we will summarise its main aspects and point to the essential. 

Identifying and understanding threats

We consider that there are 4 main types of threats

• Direct threats (threats directed unequivocally to our client and its entourage)
• Indirect threats (being at the wrong place at the wrong time)
• Criminal (Money, assets, family targeted by thieves) 
• Miscellaneous (Natural disasters, motor accident etc) 

How can threats be expressed?

• Verbal assault
• physical assault
• fear and intimidation
• kidnapping
• assassination.

After threats and their origins have been identified we will assess if the party threatening you has the Motivation, Capability and most importantly the Opportunity to carry out the said threats. Once the necessary intelligence work has been done, we will be able to determine your actual Risk Level. They are classed into 3 categories. 

Risk category 3

Low threat level - In this category, we assume that if a direct threat is identified, an attack is possible but unlikely.  We also keep in mind at all times that "there is never not a threat". The fact of being in the wrong place at the wrong time, opportunist criminality, thieves are to be considered.

Counter measures for risk category 3:

• Personal Protection Officer
• Personal Escort Section (Size to be determined)
• Security vehicles
• Residential Security Team if necessary

Risk category 2

Medium threat level - Here, we consider that the potential attackers have the motivation and the ability to carry out their threats. Threats have been clearly identified and an attack is probable. 

Countermeasures for risk category 2:

• Personal Protection Officer
• Personal Escort Section (Size to be determined)
• Residential Security Team
• Security vehicles
• Security Advance Party
• Surveillance / Counter surveillance Operatives

Risk Category 1

High, significant threat level - In this category, we assume that an attack is imminent. Deep intelligence work has demonstrated beyond any reasonable doubt that the potential attackers have an opportunity to carry out their threats. An attack plan has been designed and could be implemented. at any time. Maximum countermeasures must be taken.

Countermeasures for Risk category 1: 

• Personal Protection Officer
• Personal Escort Section (Size to be determined)
• Residential Security Team / Ballistic protection reinforcement
• Security Advance Party
• Surveillance / Counter surveillance Operatives
• Intelligence  / Counterintelligence Team (HUMINT,SIGINT)
• EOD Team if necessary
• Armoured Client vehicle
• Security vehicles

These countermeasures are our recommendations for optimised Close Protection Operations. Each client's situation is unique and must be considered individually. There is no "off the Shelf" Protection plan.
